Provenance: Collection of Annina Nosei
Annina Nosei is an art dealer and gallerist, with doctorates in literature and philosophy from the University of Rome. In 1965, following their meeting through Robert Rauschenberg at UCLA, Nosei married art dealer and gallerist John Weber, and began to organize shows for Weber's gallery. Toward the end of the 1970s, Nosei showed work by Richard Prince, David Salle, Donald Newman, et al., in a shared loft with Larry Gagosian. After opening her eponymous gallery in 1980, and the success of its landmark group show 'Public Address', bringing together artists including Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring, Nosei produced Basquiat's first New York solo exhibition in 1982. Nosei continues to locate emerging talent, and remains a crucial linchpin in the New Image period. Her archives are held by the Fales Library and Special Collections at New York University.
